Susanna "Granny Sue" Holstein is a poet, writer of short stories and nonfiction, and a professional storyteller. Her repertoire includes mountain ghost stories, West Virginia historical tales and legends, folklore, ballads, world folktales and more.

A frequent presenter of programs and workshops at conferences, festivals, schools and libraries, Holstein obtained her BS (Education) in 1991 from WV State University and Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 1995.

Holstein writes an online journal, Granny Sue’s News and Reviews, the poetry blog Mountain Poet and a monthly column for the central West Virginia publication Two Lane Livin’. Her work has appeared in four short story anthologies as well as in other print and online journals.

As storyteller Granny Sue she performs across West Virginia and out of state, telling stories and singing Appalachian and British ballads. She is the West Virginia Liaison to the National Storytelling Network, secretary of the West Virginia Storytelling Guild, and 2nd Vice President of West Virginia Writers, Inc.

The mother of five sons, a grandmother, and great-grandmother, Holstein enjoys gardening, canning and the quiet world of her country home in Jackson County where she finds inspiration for her writing and storytelling.
